Step Up To Serve celebrates first anniversary...

Posted : 28/11/2014

This week marks the first anniversary of the Step Up To Serve campaign, which is committed to doubling the number of young people engaged in social action by 2020.

Following the 2012 review into youth social action, the charity Step Up To Serve was established in 2013 to coordinate the #iwill campaign. The campaign encourages businesses, organisations and individuals to make an #iwill pledge, aiming to embed social action into youth settings and increase access to relevant volunteering opportunities for young people across the UK. Progress is being measured by Ipsos MORI.

Safe in Tees Valley has pledged its support to this initiative.

"Safe in Tees Valley promote and embed high quality youth social action across all areas of our work; using methodologies that measure and showcase the double benefits for young people and communities.

We pledge to increase the scale and reach of this work by 50% to help meet the goal of doubling the number of young people participating in social action by 2020"

Working in partnership with local, regional and national partners;  we maximise opportunities for high quality youth social action across the Tees Valley  including:  National Citizen Service, Action Up,  Starbucks Youth Action, The Key,  and Cleveland Police Cadets.

Next week will see the test-launch of a bespoke Youth Social Action app; created by Safe in Tees Valley in partnership with UK Youth. The app will give young people the tips, techniques and tools to help them take practical action in the service of others. It will be tested by 100 young people across England between December 2014 and February 2015;  and will be officially launched in April 2015.
