Safe in Tees Valley wins share of community funding...

Posted : 30/07/2015

Thank You to all who voted for Safe in Tees Valley to win Skills & Opportunity Funding. Public votes were used by regional judging panels to help them decide which organisations received funding. We are delighted to have won the biggest share of the funding in the North.

We will use the funding to work with strategic partner Youth Focus North East to develop their successful pilot project: Reducing the Skills Gap; and roll it out across the Tees Valley working with four local delivery partners.

The funding will allow over 60 vulnerable and disadvantaged young people to take part in the peer- 2-peer employability project. Young trainers will support their peers in their development of 6 key employability skills identified as a ‘skills gap and barrier to employment’ by local employers. They will produce and use creative media to showcase their skills to employers; and use virtual learning, employability qualifications, and work placements to connect to employment opportunities.

Keith Whittaker, Relationship Manager at NatWest, said: “Safe in Tees Valley is a fantastic organisation which offers vital support to communities in the area. We look forward to seeing how the funding will help to give people the skills and opportunities to build better lives and stronger communities.”

Safe in Tees Valley is one of eight not-for-profit organisations in the North which will receive their share of over £1m from the Skills & Opportunities Fund. Winners have been chosen from over 1000 applicants in total. The fund seeks to support community and charity initiatives that help people achieve qualifications, get into work or set up their own business, now or in the future.
