Digital Inclusion Programme make positive improvements

...to Step Forward Tees Valley participant

NW attended his initial appointment with SITV in December 2018. He was living in a B&B and his mental ill health was very low. He had been made redundant from British Steel following a lengthy employment and didn’t know where to turn in terms of looking for work or training. He had no digital skills to speak of and was not keen to attend any training; he felt he had done all that before and gained nothing. As part of the requirements from the Job Centre he was required to have a CV and the ability to complete online job searches or applications; he had no CV and no digital skills.

Navigator completed online CV for NW as required. We discussed the support Safe in Tees Valley could offer through 1-1 Digital support and a referral was made. NW worked very well with Lorraine from SITV and is now able to access digital services both from a PC and also his phone. His confidence and therefore his mental health has improved massively as a result of these newly developed digital skills. He could not praise the support that Lorraine had given him enough.

Support was also given to NW to make housing applications and he eventually moved into a new flat in Central Redcar. He was supported to make applications for associated housing/council tax benefit. He was also shown how to access online services such as National Careers and Entitled 2 Website. In terms of employment and training NW was referred to Routes to Work and has enrolled onto training opportunities which will improve his employability chances.
