Having recently graduated from Safe in Tees Valley’s National Citizen Service, nine young peopledecided to take on a completely different challenge altogether. The group who have calledthemselves ‘The Survivors’ applied to Keyfund for £250 to support their efforts to raise money for TheTeenage Cancer Trust by coordinating fundraising events - including walking the length of Hadrian’sWall!

As many of the group members know someone who has been affected by Teenage Cancer the groupcame to a mutual agreement that this charity would be the sole beneficiary of their fundraising efforts. They’re hoping that their events and challenges will raise the profile of ‘The Teenage Cancer Trust’ andits work across the generations, encouraging people to support the charity in any way they can.

Using many of the Keyfund skills, such as negotiation to secure sponsorship for their event, planningtheir time and energy by dividing up tasks per group member and search for information and get adviceby using the internet to search for talented young people who are in a band, the group managed toorganise a charity concert and fundraising event in the local church hall. This event raised £966.32,and will be added to money raised from bag packing at ASDA as well as sponsorship money for theirHadrian’s Wall challenge. They have already smashed their fundraising target of £2000 and donationsare still flying in!

The team is now busy planning their Hadrian’s Wall Challenge and we will bring you another update onceit’s completed. Each group member has allocated themselves a specific task such as planning their timeand energy, budgeting and agreeing their responsibilities and seeing them through to ensure that thegroup can achieve their goal.
