Police Cadets

The cadet scheme was developed in 2008 by Cleveland Police and Cleveland Authority with administration and management support from SITV. The programme is designed around a vision of empowering young people to make a significant, practical contribution to the creation of safer, stronger and more sustainable communities. It provides young people with opportunities to develop life and citizenship skills, while fostering a real sense of responsibility for the communities in which they live.

Over the long term, the Programme will provide successive groups of Cadets with a range of interactive learning and development opportunities, with a safer communities and policing theme. They will learn a range of police-related skills and techniques and develop their personal fitness and stamina through physical training and team games. They will also have regular opportunities to partake in volunteer work ranging from community projects to supporting local events.

A team working within Safe in Tees Valley is managing the programme and co-ordinating delivery. Cadets meet weekly at local schools or youth centres, where Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers, Youth Workers and Volunteers deliver the Programme.
