Preventative Services – Children & Young PeopleIn 2008, we totally restructured our Children & Young People Division, drawing on past experience and success to ensure we could continue to respond to the demands of national and local policy relating to the prevention of offending and anti-social behaviour. Ofsted and the Joint Inspection of South Tees Youth Offending Service subsequently gave their unconditional approval to our new operation, each independently grading it ‘Good – performing well and consistently above minimum standards’. The major new policy driver of 2008 was the Youth Task Force and Government’s Youth Crime Action Plan and we worked with key partners and funders to deliver a three-pronged prevention programme designed to tackle the full range of issues involved. The three elements comprised:-Intensive Intervention ProgrammeIdentifying individual young people displaying risk factors that may lead to offending, then delivering a non negotiable intensive case management model to address their needsMobile ServicesUsing a range of mobile services - including our fleet of 6 vehicles and street-based outreach teams - to deliver interventions in response to intelligence of neighbourhood antisocial behaviour and juvenile crime from police, community safety teams, and the communityProjectsResponding to both local and national issues by piloting new projects or discrete pieces of work addressing crime and antisocial behaviour and associated risk taking behaviour amongst children and young people. |
